Al-Yamamah University Students in a Visit to Jazlah TBM

‏

On 01/02/2016, a delegation from Al-Yamamah University students and staff headed by Dr. Sulaiman Al-Kharboush, dean of Admission and Registration Deanship, visited Jazlah TBM location as part of a Student Visits’ Program organized by ADA to spread awareness about King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project in Riyadh, and the benefits it offers to the city and its residents in all aspects of life.

During the visit, the students watched a video presentation shedding light on the project, its components and benefits.

Later, ADA’s team escorted the students in a tour at Jazlah TBM location. After listening to a detailed explanation about the site’s security and safety procedures, the students put on the safety gear and moved along the TBM tunnel via special trailers that allowed them to explore the tunnel’s components. It is noteworthy that Jazlah TBM has recently penetrated the second station (Orange Line) after boring a 1650-m tunnel from south of Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium to the second station location.

At the end of the tunnel, the delegation watched the modern technologies and multiple functions of the giant TBM (Jazlah), which causes no vibration or noise to the surface while boring the tunnels and lining it with precast concrete segmental linings.

Dr. Sulaiman bin Saleh Al-Kharboush, Dean of Admission, Registration and Student Affairs Deanship at the University, expressed his pleasure with the visit, adding that the university students will benefit from the project.

Jazlah is one of seven TBMs specially manufactured for the project to bore ‎35 kilometers of tunnels ‎along ‎the three metro lines (Orange, Green and Blue), and install precast concrete segmental linings as ‎they move ‎along these tunnels.‎ The TBMs length ranges from 90 to 120 meters, with each TBM weighing approximately 2,000 tons, ‎and ‎digging away about 50 truckloads of earth daily. ‎Metro Orange Line is carried out by Arriyadh New Mobility (ANM), a consortium led by Salini Impregilo, ‎an ‎Italian industrial group.
